Team Dignitas Roster 2017 Spring

Dignitas (previous known as Team Dignitas), is an International e-Sports team headquartered in Great Britain. It was founded on September 9, 2003 as a fusion of the Battlefield 1942 clans Legion Condor and Sweden Kompanix. Later on, more teams were added to the organization, and in July 2004 Team Dignitas was registered as a company - Team Dignitas Ltd. In addition to their SMITE team, Team Dignitas also sponsors teams and players for League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Heroes of the Storm, Playerunknown's Battleground and CS:GO Womean. Michael "ODEE" O'Dell is the current Managing Director of the Team Dignitas organization. For information about their League of Legends team, see their page on the LOL Esports Wiki.

History

Pre-Launch

From the acquisition of the North American team ROOT Gaming[1] in June 2013 onwards, Team Dignitas was one of the most prominent teams in the competitive SMITE scene. Leading up to the SMITE Launch Tournament in March 2014, the team around popular team-captain Lassiz continued to battle COGnitive Gaming for the NA crown. At the SMITE Launch Tournament, Team Dignitas overcame its NA rivals and placed second behind Europeans Team SoloMid.

Season 1

In July 2014, Team Dignitas made the surprise announcement that the team's solo laner AnatoLiy would be replaced by SNIPE Gaming's jungler Shing.[2] At the SMITE Pro League NA Kick-Off LAN in August, Team Dignitas, still playing with AnatoLiy due to a roster lock, defeated SNIPE Gaming only to fall to the surprise newcomer team COGnitive Red who had defeated their sister team COGnitive Prime before. Shortly before the SMITE Pro League, the team made another surprising roster change when iconic players Shadowq and TheBest decided to leave the team.[3] Shadowq had decided he needed to be paid more and did not want his career to be defined by "glorified babysitting" (as he was always protecting Zapman in absurd situations), and TheBest had decided he wanted to focus on college. They were replaced by former COGnitive support DaretoCare and Gnaw respectively.

Despite a long winstreak, Team Dignitas finished the NA SPL in third-fourth place due to defeats in the first and last weeks. At the SPL NA Regionals event in November 2014, they defeated Fat Chunks Assemble but fell 0-3 to the eventual winners COGnitive Red, failing to qualify for the SMITE World Championship.

Season 2

Following the World Championship, Team Dignitas announced that the NA SMITE team decided to leave the organisation to form Team Eager.[4] A few weeks prior to the SPL Season 2 qualification, Team Dignitas signed the European SMITE team Novus Orsa in February 2015.[5]

The team finished the Spring Split in fifth place. It successfully averted relegation, defeating The Papis in the Summer Qualifiers. One week before the end of the Summer Season, YOUNGBAE stepped down, having enjoyed the team's environment less and less.[6] Shortly thereafter, former Upcoming Stars hunter iRens joined the ranks.[7] Deku also joined as a coach during the Fall Split.

After a heartbreaking loss in Game five to Paradigm in the EU Super Regionals, Deku decided to step down from his role of coach for Dignitas [8] In January 2016, Variety left the team with plans to join a then unannounced lineup in preparation for Season 3.[9] Shortly after, Frezzyy also left the team, contemplating leaving the competitive SMITE scene altogether.[10] Finally, Suntouch and TheDarkDodo joined Team Dignitas shortly before the start of Season 3.[11]

2017 Season

Dignitas gained powerhouse team Variety's New Team shortly before the start of Season 4.
