Mark "Whalrus" Maloney is an American SMITE player. He is currently without a team.

Biography

Whalrus started playing video games on the Gameboy at a young age. Moving on to the PC, he became a big fan of the Valve game Garry's Mod. His first steps in SMITE were made in the 3v3 scene before finally moving up the Conquest ranked ladder.

Whalrus and BronxBombers went through a number of short-lived lineups, the most notable of which was Marvin and the Moose which defeated Five Angry Men to take first place in the SMITECentral Battle for Valhalla tournament in January 2015. In the same month the two joined the newly formed Busters lineup. After qualifying for the SMITE Pro League he and the team would be acquired by Enemy eSports. With his new lineup, Whalrus managed to qualify for the SPL Season 2 NA with a surprise victory over Team Eager in the Week 3 of the Qualifiers. Enemy was seen as a weak team, with most fans agreeing that Eager should have made it instead of Enemy. They went on to prove this by beginning to lose all of their games.

Disappointed, Whalrus left the team later that month, joining Denial eSports as their new solo laner for the Fall Season much later.[1] Despite his higher up position, Denial, which had been a perpetual middle-of-the-pack team, did not change much in ranking. Whalrus's play was heavily defined by BellonaSquare Bellona and Sun WukongSquare Sun Wukong with his performance being generally average.

After leaving Denial eSports, he would go on the join The Randozos and Noble eSports, both bottom-tier SPL teams. As the bottom seeded team, Whalrus received many losses, many of which were not his fault. Despite this very dismal outcome, towards the end of his stint on Noble eSports, Whalrus began to improve dramatically. Professional players, casters and fans all began to reach a consensus: He was the next big solo laner. A bold prediction indeed, Whalrus joined superteam In Memory of Gabe before Season 4, with his performance and win rate rising dramatically.

Trivia

  • He got his nickname from horkers in Skyrim, as they look like walruses, which are also his favorite animal.
  • He played support and jungle competitively before.
  • Nas is his favorite rapper.
  • He doesn't like toppings on his pizza, but loves pepperoni.
